Welcome to my ICT blog!

Hello everybody and welcome to my blog! This blog is entirely dedicated to pedagogical ICT tools which might be very handy for you as teachers in your professional futures at the schools.  As a matter of fact, everything related to computers and technology attracts a great deal of attention of our children. Actually, it has been demonstrated that they perform better if the content and activities to do are in an ICT format. In this way, this blog is going to show you some alternative tools to work on many of the English skills while students also enjoy.   We are going to talk about Symbaloo, an alternative home page where you can introduce your favourite educational web pages.  Then, Storyjumper which is a perfect alternative to create audiobooks with your own stories and promote reading in class.  On the third place, we have Powtoon, an innovative presentation format which can help students to maintain oral communication in the classroom.  In the fou...

Check what we have learnt with Educaplay & Quizlet.

This post is one of the most important of the blog from a pedagogical point of view. With Educaplay and Quizlet we are introducing two very useful tools for the teaching and learning process. On the one hand, Quizlet is a web page that allows you to create some flashcards for learning mainly vocabulary (however, you can try to introduce also grammar or phonetic topics) and then, it provides you also the opportunity of testing your pupils' knowledge on the chosen topic. In this way, you, as teachers can fulfil the task of evaluating them, too.  On the other hand, following the evaluation matter, we have Educaplay. This online tool is known as one of the most popular webs for learning while children are playing.  It gives you the opportunity of creating games such as Crosswords and Wordsearch puzzles, matching activities, ordering words to make sentences... and doing so, you can take a look at your students' progress on the topic.  To conclude, these online tools are a...

Powtoon, an incredible animation tool.

In this post, we will learn a bit more about Powtoon. In my case, I have already worked with this animation tool in previous years. Here I introduce a very brief example to show you an educational functionality of this online tool.  This example is a presentation beneficial for children when the new school year has started. It allows them to introduce themselves after having seen an example of the teacher. In this way, we achieve the aim of encouraging them to speak in English and interact with their peers.  Not only can it be used for presentation, but Powtoon is also a presentation tool handy for any topic you want for your pupils in the class. They will learn about any topic present in the curriculum (The Solar System, Our Body, Technology...) while they enjoy. The stronger point of this application is that is very striking and eye-catching for children in Primary Education.

Let's enjoy with a digital story.

Storyjumper is an online web page that allows teachers to create hundreds of stories for their students. Moreover, given the handy management of the web page, students can learn how to create their own narrations. The settings enable users to choose the characters, the scenes, the type of font and colours... From a pedagogical point of view, Storyjumper is a perfect online alternative for promoting the reading skill in the classroom. Children during all the primary stage can enjoy while reading a huge variety of stories. In this way, we can build really competent pupils. In addition, Storyjumper also offers the opportunity to record yourself after writing the story and doing so, we also promote reading-listening literacy.  Here you have a personal example which is perfect for young learners to introduce themselves, learning also some vocabulary of the Solar System. Working with Symbaloo.

The first entry deals with Symbaloo, an online tool for a more effective search through the web. It allows you to create your own home page with many icons representing the educational pages you are used to working on. In this way, we, as teachers, can have the most helpful web pages at first sight when we open our computers. Some of these web pages can be dictionaries, Google Apps, alternative online tools for learning... Talking about our students, Symbaloo might be beneficial because if you only add educational web pages that we use in class, indirectly, you aren't letting them navigate into adult pages, and that is a very good point.  Here you have the first draft of my Symbaloo web page. As you can see, I have organised it into groups with different icons that represent different types of pages. However, at the end of the subject, I have improved my Symbaloo home page and I have many more resources and a more advanced management of the page.
